One of the most prolific and decorated rappers in Africa, Michael Owusu Addo, also known professionally as Sarkodie has finally reacted to claims of fueding with Nigerian stars, Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy.
Sarkodie’s latest project “Brag” amassed a lot of controversies and reactions on social media following his choice of lyricism, especially against some famous Nigerian stars. Many believed that the rapper aimed at dragging the Nigerian stars in his song and many fans, especially were not happy with him.
In an interview on VoxAfrica, Sarkodie clarified that he never jabbed any of the musicians he listed in his song as he explains the true goal of his decision to make mention of these Nigerian musicians.
He clarified that the songs did not denigrate the efforts of prominent African musicians, but rather served as a means of narrative and parallels to his own career trajectory. He mentiond that he was thriving in the music game before the emergence of the likes of Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid and that is the truth.
Sarkodie also added that if he wanted to jab any musician in his song, he would have jabbed a rapper not singers and also, he made mention of these musicians because of their consistence in music which most rappers in Africa cannot compete.
“Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido would never think I want to jab them because if I want to jab somebody, it has to be rappers. They are not rappers. I am just talking to rappers about how long I’ve been there and who else is best to use as reverence? Everybody knows Wizkid, Burna Boy, Black Sheriff, Asake and Davido”, he said.
“And it’s true that I was in the industry before they all came in. It’s just references to how long I’ve been there. It’s not throwing jabs at anybody. These are incredible, amazing artists,” he added.
However, Sarkodie said he enjoys the controversy and reactions the song has garnered since its release because he deems that as a positive feedback for the project released.
