Nii Ofori Tackie, well known as Alordia, a UK-based Ghanaian event promoter has explained why he strongly believes no Ghanaian musician can single-handedly fill the O2 Arena, which is one of the biggest event centers in the world.
Manu Ghanaians have tagged their favorite musicians to be the first to host a show at the famous O2 Arena. A school of thought believes that some Ghanaian musicians have the capability to hold a massive concert at the Arena just like other musicians have done in the past.
So far, Nigerian musicians such as Davido, Burnaboy, Wizkid, Rema, and Asake, among others have been able to hold a successful show at the O2 Arena, making them some of the few people in the world to do so and attained such successful heights in their music career.
However, some Ghanaians strongly believe the likes of Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, and even Black Sherif also have the ability to replicate the same thing at the O2 Arena given their numerous achievements with their music worldwide.
It is at the back of this that the UK-based promoter, Alordia has concluded that with his years of experience in organizing shows abroad for Ghanaian musicians and other African talents, he believes no Ghanaian musician can single-handedly host a show at the O2 Arena.
According to him, a Ghanaian musician would have to join forces with other Ghanaian talents who have amassed great success in their field in order to have a successful turnout at the O2 Arena. He added that even Nigerian artists like Davido had to rely on the likes of Stonebwoy, King Promise, and other musicians before they had a successful show at the arena.
“Even with the Nigerian artistes that fill the O2 Arena, it’s not just one artiste that does that singlehandedly but a lot of them come together to fill it. I’ve never seen any single Nigerian artiste who comes to fill the O2 Arena alone so if we also want to do it, it cannot be one artiste. Because even if the likes of David come to fill the O2 Arena you’d see Ghanaian artists like Stonebwoy and King Promise here supporting him to do it. As for that, we shouldn’t look at that way in the sense that just one artiste comes to fill the O2 Arena from Ghana and we normally mention the headline artiste that’s why it seems so“, he posited.
He cited that Medikal was able to have a successful show at the O2 Indigo because of the other artists he billed to co-headline the show with him. He added that the other musicians made the show exciting for the rapper, hence they also contributed to the success of the show.
“But they get support from other artists as well so if we also want to fill the O2 Arena, it’s not going to be one artiste just like Medikal came to sell the O2 Indigo but it wasn’t him alone. Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Efya, and other musicians from Ghana came to London to support Medikal at O2 Indigo which made the show very exciting”, he added.
